Solos, Duos and Trios
(Keep in mind, selected students are at the choreographer’s full discretion and is not, in any way, shape or form, favoritism. If your child is not chosen, it should be a motivator for them to work that much harder for the next opportunity!!)
Please note that Solos, Duos and Trios are considered specialty routines at MCDC. These routines are highly competitive and require the utmost dedication. As much as we would love to see everyone enjoy the experience of one of these numbers, with our current teaching staff, it is just not plausible. We would much rather put all our focus and energy into a smaller number of routines rather than spread ourselves too thin and be unable to give our students the proper education and experience.
MCDC reserves the right to make any decisions regarding Solos/Duos/Trios. This includes but is not limited to total number of accepted routines, participants, music, rehearsal times. MCDC may also deny any application with proper explanation. Any student competing in the Novice categories may not be considered for a routine.
What will be taken into consideration?
We look at dedication in their group routines, attitudes of student and parents, in and out of the studio, on-time payments, etc.
Solos
Studio choreographed solos will be fully reserved for any graduating student, on the Competition Team, that wishes to compete in a solo for their senior year. However, any non-graduating student that is on the MCDC Competition Team may complete the form below. If you are considering self-choreographing a solo, you must have a completed routine by the designated date, and it must be performed in front of our staff to determine whether it is ready for representing our studio at competition. A self-choreographed student has the right to one (1) half hour time slot at the studio per month, and these must be scheduled well in advance to accommodate for others in need of studio time (any additional time will be at an additional cost). All other rehearsal time must be done elsewhere. These students may also ask for an instructor to act as a “mentor” and receive advice/assistance from, if needed. Again, all non-senior soloist MUST be on the Team and MUST fill out and return the form below to our staff within the first week of the new dance season.
Duos/Trios
Duos will be less likely to be selected due to their specific nature. If we believe that two students can connect together onstage, choreography may be considered. Trios, on the other hand, have a higher chance of being picked. The choreographer still needs to believe that the three will dance well together in all aspects. Hence the reason behind these numbers only being picked by the studio.

Recital and Specialty Numbers
All specialty routines will compete at all competitions. However, self-choreographed/non-senior solos will NOT be considered for the recital due to the limited time frame. *All graduating seniors will be given one ‘senior group routine’ that will be allowed in the recital to take the place of numerous solos*
*Routines in the recital are up to Kathy and Jake. This decision is final, and it is NOT up for debate.
*If selected for a routine, both the student and parent/guardian MUST read and sign a contract and agree with all terms and conditions!
If, at any moment, fees are late, the choreographer and studio have the right to cancel the routine. NO EXCEPTIONS. If a scheduled studio rehearsal is missed with no excuse or timely notice, that rehearsal will be forfeited, and the routine may be canceled. If a student has 3 or more absences, excused or unexcused, their routine will be canceled.
